To double your Shopify app store page traffic, focus on the keywords and sources that bring paying merchants, then grow them on four fronts: app store SEO and AEO, Shopify Ads, Google Ads, and the partners and referrals you already have. Traffic is the top of your funnel, so double it and, at the same conversion rate, you double your new customers.
How far is double? Across 400+ active apps on Prys, the average app gets 644 app store page visitors a month and the top quartile 1,075, from our Shopify app benchmarks. And every visitor has a value: $9.43 for the average app, $13.58 for the top quartile. That value is also the most you can pay per click and still break even.
How do you know which keywords and sources to focus on?
Push for volume carelessly and you’ll fill your page with merchants who never pay. To grow and keep quality, focus on your most valuable keywords and sources: terms that are searched often, convert well for your app, and bring real revenue.
For each keyword, measure both sides:
| What you need | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Search volume | Impressions and visibility of your exact-match keywords in Shopify Ads |
| Conversion and revenue | Installs, subscribers, and revenue per keyword, from Shopify app keyword tracking |
| Difficulty | Who ranks above you for the term, and how strong their listings are |
Sort the list into three tiers of four or five keywords, with the high-value, high-volume terms in tier one. Add valuable low-volume keywords and misspellings from your data. New apps should start with niche keywords. Do the same for non-search sources: which blog, partner, or affiliate brings merchants who pay?
How do you optimize your Shopify app store page for SEO and AEO?
Your rank in Shopify App Store search depends on the relevance of your name, description, and keywords to the query, the number and quality of reviews (especially recent ones), your install rate, and the Built for Shopify badge. You can’t move most of that overnight. Keyword placement you can move today, and it’s the biggest lever you own. The more prominently you place a keyword, the higher you rank for it.
Place your keywords by priority:
- App name (30 characters). The strongest field. Combine your brand with a top keyword or two.
- App card subtitle (62 characters). Top SEO and AEO space too. Use your top keywords.
- App introduction (100 characters). Your value proposition in 20 to 25 words, with room for several top keywords.
- App details (500 characters) and the feature list (five features of up to 80 characters). Lower priority, but they count. Some repetition is fine.
- App URL. Add a keyword after your app’s name in the listing URL.
- Search terms. Add your top five keywords in the Partner Dashboard.
- Search title and meta description. So your listing ranks on Google, not only in the App Store.
Check your rankings a day or two after each change, and iterate. Optimizing the copy alone can double, even triple, Shopify search installs. The full method is in Shopify app store SEO & AEO.
How do you scale paid traffic to your app store page?
Once organic is working, paid ads add reach. The rule is simple: bid where the value of a visitor beats the cost of a click.
Shopify Ads puts you at the top of App Store search right away, but costs keep rising as every app bids on the same short-tail terms. Run exact and broad match together, promote winners from broad to exact, review the search terms report weekly, add negatives, and bid by visitor value per keyword. Every couple of weeks, add new keywords and misspellings to a separate campaign. See Shopify App Store ads.
Google Ads reaches merchants where there’s less competition: few Shopify apps advertise there, and merchants search Google all day with problems your app solves. Add “Shopify” as a phrase-match negative, target the problem searches, exclude other platforms, and send clicks to your listing. Start on manual CPC, then move to AI Max and Performance Max once you have around 30 conversions, feeding them installs, subscriptions, and payments with real values. See Google Ads for Shopify apps.
Once both are stable, test other platforms, such as Meta and Reddit.
When does a landing page make sense?
By default, send your ads straight to your App Store listing; it converts best, and you can’t target Shopify-branded keywords on a landing page either. A landing page makes sense in two cases: you monetize outside Shopify, or a keyword is too competitive for the listing. It’s also useful for running an offer.
If you build one, lead with a value proposition for Shopify merchants, a product image, proof from your Shopify reviews and customers, and a clear call to install. Below that: key features, pricing, testimonials, and an FAQ, repeating the call to action on a long page. A direct install link can skip the extra step through the listing. And keep the attribution: Shopify app landing page tracking carries the ad click through your page to the App Store and back to the ad platform.
Which other sources can you grow?
Some of your best traffic comes from sources other than search. A few, like direct visits, are hard to grow. Others can be nurtured. Referral partners are the classic example: once you know which partners send merchants who pay, you know which relationships to invest in, expand, and replicate.
“It’s easy to start getting low-quality visitors when you try to expand your traffic aggressively. To maintain traffic quality, it’s vital to know the most valuable traffic sources and keywords for your app.”
Boaz Lantsman, Co-Founder & CEO, Prys
Check every source in detail, keep what pays, and scale it. The traffic is often already there.
